What About movie – After the corrupt former Mayor is killed by the peasants, poor janitor Juan Vargas is appointed new Mayor of a desert town in central Mexico. Although he tries to bring the motto of the ruling party to town (modernity, peace and progress) he realizes soon that there’s nothing to do against corruption… except to become corrupt. Step by step, helped by his pistol, Juan Vargas becomes the law and the worst Major in the town’s history.

Warsaw, December 1942. When a prostitute is savagely murdered, GermanIntelligence Officer Major Grau is called to investigate. An eyewitnesswho caught a glimpse of the perpetrator through a crack in a door,reveals that the killer wore grey trousers with a red stripe down theside – the uniform of a Wehrmact General. Grau quickly narrows thesuspects down to three men whose whereabouts on the night in questioncannot be accounted for.Having been aware of this film for many years, I finally managed tocatch a rare screening of it last night on British TV. Part of mycuriosity to see it was due to the sheer weight of the cast:- OmarSharif as Major Grau, Peter O’Toole, Donald Pleasence and Charles Grayas the Generals, plus Christopher Plummer, Tom Courtenay, PhilipNoiret, Gordon Jackson, John Gregson, Harry Andrews, Nigel Stock andPatrick Allen – phew! The film itself starts quite promisingly as amurder mystery and maintains the interest while based in Warsaw. Itfeatures an impressive sequence involving the flushing out of PolishResistance fighters in the city. An interesting side-note at this pointis that the armour used here appeared to be either real Tiger tanks, orpretty good replicas. This attention to detail was quite unusual for afilm made in 1966. Usually, contemporary armour was used in war filmsof this vintage – I’m thinking particularly of ‘Battle Of The Bulge’,’The Bridge At Remagen’ and even ‘Patton’.

When the pair link Harriet’s disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from almost forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history. But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

I really was hyped too see this as David Fincher is one of my favoritedirectors, but this movie seemed pretty unnecessary to me.The movie is pretty much a re-thread of the Swedish movie same plot,except that the ending dragged on more than the Swedish movie.Rooney Mara is good as Lisbeth and so is Craig as Blomkvist but theydon’t have the chemistry that the actors in the Swedish movie have.The dialog seems pretty forced at times and I think this movie mighthave been better if it have been set in the UK or in the US, instead ofhaving mostly British/American actors speak with awful accents.My biggest question is why does this movie even exist it is completelyunnecessary.This movie falls in the same trap as many Hollywood adapted movies, itbuilds up a more hype and falls flat.My verdict if you have not seen it go see the Swedish version, it’s waymore stronger as a whole.

I just watched Lunar Girl on the Community Channel on Sky and wasknocked out with the treatment of the in depth social issues. I alsoloved the wonderful soundtrack and thought the acting from the youngpeople during the homeless scenes was superb. I happen to know thatthis film was made on a less than a shoestring budget, so am even moreimpressed. To me the visual quality was as good as anything else I’veseen on TV and the special FX by Wilson were a nice surprise. I knowJanis & Wilson have fostered large family groups of children fromdifficult backgrounds for the past three years and am amazed that theyalso found the time to make Lunar Girl and to get it televised. Janisis a brilliant songwriter and I loved the songs from Gary May, JamesLitherland,Charli Wilson & Sophie Wu. I would recommend Lunar Girl toanyone who wants to see just how good a movie can be even when it’smade on a shoestring.I also love that Charli Wilson and other new young actors were given achance to shine and they did just that, as did the superb BasienkaBlake and Peter Gallagher.

Joanna Kerns, (Jessica Rayner) gave an outstanding performance of awoman who was raped on her front lawn and the only thing that saved herwas an old man coming to her aid. Jessica has a very happy family lifewith her husband, Anthony John Denison, (Dan Rayner) who have abusiness that works out of their home and everything is going in theright direction until this rapist strikes. What makes this filmterrifying is the fact that many other women are being raped and thisrapist constantly goes back to Jessica and attempts to rape and killher so she will not be able to identify him. This film begins to getrather boring with this rapist never being able to get caught by policeor anyone else.

I liked the first Charlie’s Angels film. OK so it was never going to makecinematic history, but it was fun in a kitsch kind of a way.Not so the second. The storyline is disjointed, and the action sequences areso far overdone it’s laughable. Suspension of disbelief is one thing, butwhen the Angels are flying around like Matrix Agents even dodging bullets,it just gets silly. There are numerous references to other films, but I getthe impression that they’re included as padding rather than genuinehomages.Demi Moore looks great, but is wasted in this compost heap of a film. Ifever there was an argument for not buying a DVD before you’ve watched it,this is it.

some people love it, some people don’t.well, i am not the kind of person that looks for the little things inmovies to tear it apart and call it awful.the storyline was amazing. the idea was genius. denzel and clive owenplay good guy vs bad guy, and they did a good job. i didn’t think thismovie was gonna have “action” in it but the action it had was beyondexcellent. the way the robbery was conducted gave the viewer chillsbecause it was so amazing. don’t listen to bad reviews, if you lovehostage movies and suspense/thriller movies (like hostage, phonebooth,etc) then go see this! you will be guessing until the very end. bestmovie ever.

I really enjoyed this movie. No it is not Blueberry the comic book, noteven close. If anyone did adapt Blueberry the comic book morefaithfully, it would be more a straight up western along the lines ofUnforgiven or Deadwood. But this does surely convey Moebius’s moreesoteric side and is kind of an homage to the 70s film El Topo, whichwas directed by Jodorowski… who also collaborated with Moebius on anumber of projects. So in some senses, this film does come full circlein portraying that more occult side of Moebius’s work.As a traditional western, it falls way short. So call it a mysticalwestern and put it in a class of two, with El Topo. It has aninteresting take on psychedelics as entheogens, and worthy ofprotection and theft. There is an interesting contrast between use ofalcohol and tobacco in the recreational sense, compared to smokingmaterial and an ingested intoxicant in the sacramental or shamanisticsense. In this sense, Madsen’s character does get a bit deeper when wefind that it is not gold he is after, but access to the spirit realminstead. One very interesting feature in the movie is not just the useof entheogens, but the scope and range of different sacred plants shownin the movie.So it doesn’t quite make it as a western, but the setting is perfectfor this type of trippy movie. The details are a bit off throughout,but it doesn’t impact the movie all that much.

Iron Man is the first feature to be made entirely by Marvel – a gamblewhich has paid off to the tune of over $350 million worldwide so far.For a non-sequel from a fledgling company that is impressive and bodeswell for Marvel’s reboot of The Incredible Hulk – due in June. Comicbook films are big money spinners now but the success of a new seriesis predicated on the entertainment value of the central character – andin this way Hulk and Tony Stark have similar problems. They just aren’tsuper enough…Iron Man starts with an unnecessary flashback structure, presumably toensure some loud action in the first minute or two. Tony Stark (playedwith now-familiar post-rehab gusto by Robert Downey Jnr.) is theembodiment of the capitalistic, jingoistic American ideal. He hasbecome absurdly rich designing weapons and, more significantly, has nomoral qualms whatsoever about the negative effects of his work. Starkis not a nice man. Except he is. This potentially realistic and complexdualistic behaviour is lost in the film’s failure to choose sides,leading us to the first of many problems; what are we, the audience,supposed to think of Tony Stark? He is presented as bright andbrilliant; a charming man of the people but also as a womaniser and awarlord. This initial confusion is nothing compared to what happenslater on. After a brush with death and a subsequent escape (which isaccomplished in an ultra-violent fashion) he holds a hippie pressconference and vows to stop making weapons for good.

This is a pure action/horror movie. It has a lot of great action sequences.The plot is not that bad either. I saw one critic comment that the plot was”silly and unrealistic”. I would like to remind that person that this is avampire movie. I did not think this was a masterpiece by any means, but itwas a terrific movie to see with my friends. This was also the first movie Ihave ever seen an audience clap for at the end. I saw this at a regularshowing at the local theatre and at the end about 1/3 of the audienceclapped.If you like action movies this is definately worth themoney.
