I had really high expectations and they weren’t fulfilled. But I wasn’tdisappointed either.Yes, it could be better. This interesting theme could be great materialfor psychological drama. I generally dislike action and zombie movies,but this one was nice mix 33% action + 33% black comedy +33% romance.Everything was moderate but not in a bad sense of that word. Acting wasgood and it was nice to see Mr Bettany in superhero role (if you cansay so for an angel role:) Characters were well written (could bebetter and deeper, but it’s enough). Not much suspense, but interestingenough.

What About movie – The truthful soldier Stirling didn’t know how to lie about his source of information, the talking army Mule, Francis, so he was treated as a lunatic and led to one after another hilarious situations, where the mule was the only one that appeared in his right mind. In the process of all this, the mule assisted in uncovering a spy, Mareen, who pretended to be lost among the jungles, but was actually… This is a perfect family film, even amusing to the adults. If people all have enough sense as this talking mule does, the world will be a much better place than its present condition.

This story is amazing it catches your audience with a simple moral begrateful for what you have and don’t wish for anything more because itwon’t make you happy. The film is suppose to mess with your head andmake you understand all the bad things that happen to Alice and themusic is so good you don’t notice that it is there. The drawings aregreat but if you noticed In the Mad Hatters tea party sequence, theHatter and the Hare decide to ‘mend’ the White Rabbit’s watch. Aftertreating it with everything from butter to jam the watch starts to flyaround the table and the Hare swipes it with a large mallet. Just asthe mallet hits, the colour fades from the scene. why? many havespeculated but nobody knows for sure. One theory is that bits of theoriginal print went missing and all they could find was a black andwhite insert. However, it’s a gradual fade across several frames – nota quick cut from colour to black and white – which perhaps indicates itwas a deliberate “effect”.

Once a year – at Christmas – Nikolas moves to a new home. To show his gratitude, Nikolas decides to make toys for the children of the families as good-bye presents. Over the years, Nikolas’s former adoptive families become many, and soon almost every house has presents on its doorstep on Christmas morning. At thirteen, Nikolas is sent to live and work with Iisakki, a grumpy old carpenter, who forbids Nikolas to continue making presents for Christmas. Gradually, however, Nikolas wins Iisakki’s trust. Together they begin to look after the Christmas traditional that Nikolas has begun. When the aged Iisakki has to leave Nikolas and move away, the tradition of Christmas presents is once again at risk. Thankfully, Nikolas comes up with a solution that brings children joy every Christmas, even continuing to today.

Spoiler! A surprise ending about hope. I watched this movie with my wife and nephewAustin. Austin enjoyed the movie. Austin liked how people can change. Mywife liked the dog. Myself found it a little long at the beginning, but asthe movie progressed the pace and flow melded into a entertaining movie. The guy from Law and Order played a good part. It was different seeing himin such a different role. The movie gives you a feeling of country life. They even had the nasty neighbour. The other dogs in the movie were meanbecause they were mistreated, but with a little love and kindest, they canchange. Overall it is a good movie for the family to watch.

I watched the movie “The Raid” this morning on satellite TV withinterest. I only learned of my relative, Col. Bennett H. Young, a fewweeks earlier. When Bennett Young was a Lieutenant in the Army of theConfederacy he led the raid on St. Albans, VT. Van Heflin portrayed Lt.Young, though by a different name, and as usual Hollywood spruced thestory of the raid up with a romantic twist with Anne Bancroft’scharacter. Lt Young did in fact flirt with a lady, taking her out for ameal and later she took him for a tour at the Governors home. This wasall intelligence gathering. In his later years he did send this lady$3.00 asking her to send him copies of newspaper clippings detailingthe raid. Lee Marvin’s character did not exist nor did the tale of hismurdering a soldier in town. There was no calvary of soldiers in townbefore, during, nor soon after the raid. After the raid invalidsoldiers were recruited from military hospitals to guard the bordertowns of Vermont. It was in fact towns people who gave chase to Lt.Young’s band of raiders who fled into Canada. Equally entertaining iswhat happened afterward in Canada. This information is completelymissing from the story in “The Raid”. For those interested, it is worthsearching for the reading material on the internet. Simply search “St.Albans Raid” Still the movie was interesting with a fine cast ofcharacters who, as usual, delivered their best.

When one of his friends Julius Jenson sells his novel for US$ 190,000.00 to an editor, Jabez fells envy and promises to sell his soul to the devil for success and accidentally kills a woman with his typing machine. The Devil knocks on his door, fixes the situation and seals a contract with Jabez. His low quality novels have bad reviews but become best-sellers, Jabez enriches, has success with women, but has no time for his friends. Jabez meets with the publisher Daniel Webster who offers him a chance to break the contract with the devil.

I recently purchased a “restored” version of ALL THAT MONEY CAN BUY,-anindependent production that suffered multiple disfiguring cuts almostimmediately upon release,-on Laserdisc with the previously excised materialapparently from inferior sources: grainy, contrasty, degraded audio.However, it is a joy to see. This is quintessential Americana withnear-perfect casting and production credits, wonderfully directed byDieterle (whose career began in Europe: as an actor, Dieterle appeared in F.W. Murnau’s silent, FAUST), and containing one great screen performance:Walter Huston as Mr. Scratch, his second best performance, in my opinion(His best work is in TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE, directed by his son John.And a close third is his performance in DODSWORTH.) Edward Arnold is alsomemorably intelligent, and the part of the presiding judge for the jury ofthe “damned” is played with harrowing pathos by the great H.B. Warner.But it is the music that really makes the film; I cannot recall a singleimage without its attendant scoring. Possibly Bernard Herrmann’s finestfilm score.

The beginning of the story started out with a very good interestingsetup. The boys, the father, and a father’s yearning for acceptancefrom his son. However, as the movie continued, it lacked imaginationand was predictable. By the end, I met the ‘cheesy’ side of the movieand was uncomfortable to even bare. This movie started out well butlacked the complexity of keeping imagination alive. Plot weakenedthroughout and all that was left was fighting and a rated B movie. Acting was fine as these actors are experienced and believable.However, even great actors have their limits and felt that the wholestory became unbelievable. Save your money, wait until it hits Redbox.

A poor movie – to put it mildly. The misleading title may make you thinkthat this is going to be a parody of the “Friday the 13Th” formula, but itisn’t. In fact, it’s hard to know what type of movie they’re supposed tobespoofing here. Anyway, this film is an appallingly unfunny comedy AND anunscary horror flick, so there’s no reason for you to see it. It has oneblessing, however, that saved it from the 1/10 rating (I gave it a 2):it’svery, very short – but still not short enough to camouflage its lack ofinspiration.

Another anthology horror movie from Amicus, this time based on thestories of R. Chetwynd-Hayes and directed by Kevin Connor, this onedeserves to be regarded as one of the very best. Because it is.The framing story of this movie revolves around an antique shop run byPeter Cushing. People visit the shop and usually try to “pull a fastone” and grab themselves a bargain/freebie. What they don’t realise isthat giving in to their temptation (and the store itself is called”Temptations Ltd.”) will see them leave with an object that will bringabout some dire consequences.In the first story David Warner drives a very hard bargain indeed toget himself a mirror and then, one seance later, finds that the mirrorcontains a presence that needs sacrifices. As the death count rises,the mirror’s inhabitant gets stronger while Warner gets weaker.The second story sees Ian Bannen as a hen-pecked husband who ends upstealing a war medal from the shop to befriend an ex-serviceman (DonaldPleasence) who now sells goods on a street corner. As Bannen gets tospend less time with his nagging wife (Diana Dors) and more time withhis new friend and the man’s daughter (played by Angela Pleasence,Donald’s daughter) things seem to be getting better and better, thoughthere is a hint of the sinister about the situation.Story number three has Ian Carmichael as a man who gets a snuff box ata bargain price, after swapping the tags, and then is plagued by anelemental sitting on his shoulder.
