Brundle thinks he has ironed out the last problem when he successfully transports a living creature, but when he attempts to teleport himself a fly enters one of the transmission booths, and Brundle finds he is a changed man. This Science-Gone-Mad film is the source of the quotable quote Be afraid. Be very afraid.”

I have seen this film quite a few times and still cry at the ending.David Cronenberg is a genius and my favourite director, a master of thegenre. This film shows male hysteria, some black comedy (some briefscenes, one of them involving a baboon) and true love. Of course, theending is heartbreaking and I think it can effect on people in reallife. It is disturbing, but if you’re like me then you’ll see beyondthat and see the beauty and sorrow of this film. I know that Crash ismarvellous to audiences, but in my opinion, how this film shockedviewers in ways and made them think as well; it is undoubtedly DavidCronenberg’s masterpiece.

Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.

This film gets a huge A+ just for the performance of Caleb A. Jones. Some of the A-list reviewers claimed they were bored at parts. I don’tget that. I was riveted. What I like about the younger Cronenberg is that he is far more mentalthan visual. David Cronenberg always relied more on visual but alsomental ideas to make his points. The younger Cronenberg takes us on atrip of the mind through illness. But not just physical illness,societal illness. David Cronenberg of course did much of the same, butthis is different. It’s a different point of view. This film examines the absolute bottomof fascination with celebrity. Brandon Cronenberg is following in hisfather’s footsteps, and thank god he is. Is it a perfect film? No. Not even close. BUT, it is important for somany reasons. The ideas conveyed are incredible, and again- watchingCaleb Jones is pure acting geek joy. That is talent.If Brandon Cronenberg stays on course, he will be one of the mostimportant new filmmakers.

I don’t believe that you can make a bad film of a Jules Verne story.Some better than others, some inferior ones, but not a bad film. Theplots and the characters were born for the screen. If Verne had beenborn later and allowed full credit control in writing and producingfilms, what films they would have been.Mysterious Island with the help of that other creative genius RayHarryhausen concerns some Union soldiers who escape from a Confederateprison in a Confederate observation balloon. There’s also oneConfederate stowaway as well. In what is described as the greatest storm in American history thisballoon is blown WAAAAAAAAAAAAY off course and they land on an islandthey later learn is 1000 miles from New Zealand. And what a place withall kinds of giant creatures, crabs, bees, and even a giant chicken allbrought to life by Ray Harryhausen with some of his best work.The man responsible for all this is Captain Nemo late of the Nautiluswhich it turns out was not sunk as written by Verne in 20000 LeaguesUnder The Sea, but rather limped into its home base by Herbert Lom in ameasured and calculated performance. Nemo has reassessed his life andnow thinks that instead of blowing up the ships of war from everynation, he should work toward providing abundance for man. I think it’s a pity that they didn’t manage to work in the FrankLoesser song, “The Ballad of Rodger Young.” In the novel, thissong is a leitmotif…I am both a Heinlein fan and a liberal. (Hey, I admire Wagner’smusic, too…). I first read “Starship Soldiers” (the original title) intheMagazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction in 1959.I was fascinated by the film. Although like many Hollywoodadaptations it departs from the novel in many ways, I felt that itnevertheless was acceptably faithful to the original. Much more sothan, say, the George Pal version of “The Time Machine.”Heinlein’s politics are handled in an interesting and evasive,ambiguous way. They are, in fact, presented fairly accurately; but,just as the novel pretends to be set in the future but really reflectsWorld War II, the movie (somehow!) combines a Star Wars “look”with a Frank Capra World War II “look.” It must be a joy forcineastes, as it incorporates innumerable cliches, both indialogue and in “look,” from old war movies. To me, the effect wassatirical–and as a liberal AND Heinlein fan, that suits me justfine(In Heinlein’s novel, of course, the purely evil Bugs serve tosidestep any questions about the morality of war. Germans andJapanese are humans, Bugs are not).True, I wish the movie makers had chosen to depict theexoskeleton “suit” technology Heinlein describes. It would havebeen fun to see our soldiers leaping tall buildings in a singlebound.

Come on guys, Galaxina is not that bad. I got it as a present from afriend who knows about my interest in let’s say ‘not so commerciallysuccessful flicks’. A DVD for one pound sterling seemed to qualify forthat category. So we watched it together and I have to say I was theonly one who admitted loving Galaxina. Okay, it’s not the funniestmovie ever made; however I made me (and the others) laugh. Not alwayswhen it was probably intended…To put it in a nutshell, I have seen much worse movies, and after allGalaxina isn’t taking itself seriously either. It’s worth reading aboutDorothy Stratten, (Galaxina) and her fate here on IMDb or the web.

With all due repect to the user who somehow remembers the ancient Republicserials doing a better live action/effects mix that this high-tech Sixtiesextravaganza, you really won’t see the join in Medding’s seamlessrecreationof a British motorway (built in one third scale and mixed with realmotorwayshots for the climactic Tigermoth escape sequence). Indeed, so realisticisthis shot that on the DVD commentary Sylvia Anderson (who spends most ofhertime pointing out the live action shots vs the model shots, like we reallyneed to know) exclaimes “now that’s definitely not a model shot!”. SorrySylv, love, it is and it’s quite likely the best you’ll ever see (or behoodwinked by). If you love Thunderbirds, the Andersons or just damn fineeffect work, come worship at the alter of Derek Meddings: see ThunderbirdSix.

Thunderbirds had made a major impact in British TV, leading to the 1966theatrical release Thunderbirds Are Go, but disappointing box office returnsand lack of interest from major US networks (the show was syndicated in theUS instead of picked up by one of the three big broadcasters) causedcancellation of the series. Superb! From start to finish, this movie left me on the edge of my seat.Arnold S. was perfect in this movie and I don’t think any other actor couldhave pulled it off better. As I watched it, I was just as bewildered astheguys in the mission. Things were happening, and they didn’t know what, andniether did I! It was so cool to know my heart was pounding to theirrythum. Eventually, when everything was exposed, it got even better. Theaction was very well plotted and the soundtrack matched perfectly. CarlWeathers was a cool sidekick, giving complaints here and there and turningout to be a mole. My only complaint is Arnold’s invincibility. I mean, hedied like 5 times in that movie.

First, let’s explain the origin of the movie. Dan O’Bannon Wrote adraft of a script titled “Memory” around 1973-74. In 1975 he went toParis for six months to work on an adaptation of Dune by AlejandroJodorowsky. When he came back to the USA without any money after thefailure of the “Dune” project, O’Bannon’s life was deeply affected bythis failure and the only thing he thought at this moment was to writea script. So he continued the “Memory” script and recalled it “StarBeast”. This title was fast abandoned and replace by “Alien”. Thescript was accepted by the 20th Century Fox, they chose Ridley Scott todirect the movie and some people of the “Dune” team, like H.R. Gigerand Jean “Moebius” Giraud joined Scott on the project. What About movie – Thriller about a New York ex-cop and an attractive female sheriff who fall in love while investigating a string of mysterious cattle mutilations in a small Colorado town. Urich is great as Reuben Castle, the retired alcoholic police lieutenant out visiting the town with his tomboy daughter. At first he tries to stay out of the case but finds himself involved after the mysterious death of his friend Joe Hiatt, the editor of the local paper whose theories about black helicopters have aroused the ire of cattle baron Ben Morgan. Trying miserably to stay sober, Castle finds himself back in danger and in love, as he and the sheriff work together to get to the bottom of the mystery, encountering incredible danger and resistance from the frightened locals.

Earth Alien is a movie is picked up for 3 euro, along with the actionclassic The Rock. i didn’t know what to expect, but when I finally satdown to watch it, I still don’t know what i saw. I mean, damn, theeffects are really bad, but in a good way. obvious CG makes this aneven more enjoyable movie experience. it’s like one big Terminatorclone, the nudity is in your face all the time, the gore, however,isn’t really present, although it racks up a high body count with somereally funny head shots. The acting is OK for this type of movie.
