What About movie – Hoping to make enough money through an overseas employer to live comfortably, Real Estate Developer Dan Sanders manages to convince his son, Tyler, and wife, Tammy, to re-locate in a remote corner of Oregon. Tyler does seem content after he meets with lovely Amber, but Tammy is concerned about her husband when he near-hysterically claims that local creatures, including beavers, ravens, bears, fox, etc. have joined forces to sabotage his project.

I hated it. It is beyond stupid. But then I realised that when I playwith my little children they love it when I do really stupid things andput on really stupid voices and pretend to fall over in a really stupidway. They especially like it when the joke about wee wee or pooh poohand they love animals. On top of this adults have always told childrenreally simplistic stories, normally involving animals, with a moreimportant message wrapped up in it. Aesop Fables spring to mind. Watchit with children, let yourself go and revert to your more simple,childish self and you’ll enjoy a valuable experience with them.

What About movie – While attending a conference in Quebec City, Sherlock Holmes and his good friend Dr. Watson are drawn into a murder investigation in the nearby village of La Mort Rouge. Holmes had received a letter from Lady Penrose asking for his assistance as she feared for her life. It was too late however as she had already been killed by the time he received it. Her throat was torn out and the local villagers are spreading rumors about monsters and evil spirits as being the cause. Holmes doesn’t believe any of that and sets out to find the killer. He believes that Lady Penrose’s past as an actress may have something to with her death. As others in the village are attacked, Holmes believes the killer is among them, impersonating a local villager as he goes about his business.

Atmospheric, well-cast and much different from its brethren, The ScarletClaw looks and feels more like a classic late Universal horror film thananyof the other Holmes movies. Spoilers follow.The concept of a murder mystery where the killer turns out to be one personbehind many faces is always entertaining and it is well-done here. Thisfilm is interesting too because, more than any other Holmes film I know inany series, Holmes fails repeatedly — to stop the killer and even toapprehend him at the end. It is far different in that respect from thetraditional Holmes tale, where Holmes is always at least one step ahead ofhis adversary. Finally, the years have lent the story a touch ofunintended, grim humor. One of the elements the story uses to divertsuspicion away from the killer’s main identity is the idea that no onewouldever suspect a postman of violent crime. Times change.

While there, he grabs the attention of a man named Harper, who works for the CIA and would like him to finish his studies and get a job on Wall Street so he can find out of any terrorist plot through their finances. A few years later, Ryan finds anomalies in the accounts of a Russian named Cherevin. Jack thinks he should go to Russia to find out what’s going on. Jack was told not to tell anyone who he is and that includes his girl friend Cathy. But she catches Jack in some lies which makes her doubt him. When I was a child, I used to walk out of movies all the time withchills and a sense of awe and wonder, thinking that was the best movieI had ever seen. However, that’s because I WAS a child and at the time,any movie was automatically on that list.It has been a LONG time since I had that feeling. Usually, I now walkout of the theater saying “Yeah, that was a great movie, but it’s notone of the best I have ever seen.””RUSH” was different. When I walked out of that movie, I had thosechills and that sense of awe and wonder again. Not only did that moviehave me at the edge of my seat at every turn like a good racing movieshould, but I can safely say that that movie had the bestcinematography that I have ever seen in any film. More often than not,I was sitting there thinking “Holy s**t, how did they get a shot likethat??” To this day, when I think about that movie, I still ask myselfthat question. I would not be surprised in the least if this movie winsthe Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

Since I have not seen the original Maniac (1980) hence this movie forme had no prerequisite anticipatory factor attached to it. Also sinceslasher movie genre doesn’t hold so much of a charm on me so I tookthis movie in a stride, if you know what I mean. I was highly impressedby Elijah Wood in Sin City, his cold calculated cannibalistic killerportrayal had an allure to it and just so as to revisit that coldness Iwent into Maniac.Now one thing I can guarantee about Maniac is it’s quite difficult tostay indifferent to it. It’s ruthlessly executed. The P.O.V approach isspot on, for then you truly tend to understand what goes inside thathead of his. After a point of time it turns into a personal experienceof sorts and this is what P.O.V brings to the table. The strain and theblurry visions when Frank has those migraines reciprocates his own painand you first hand live through his troubled life, feeding into hisdreams and upon his preys. It would be incorrect to call Maniac aslasher movie, it does have elements resembling the Slasher genre butin it’s nuances you find a whole gamut of emotions colliding andforging his actions. It explores Frank inside out and in turn generatessympathy for him. His loneliness and his apprehensions in confrontinghis emotions tend to make him more than a simple antagonist. As Frankyou feel cheated, angry and a sick desperation to manifest theseemotions into something violent.

Director MIchel Drach tells here his own story,when he was a childduring WW2.The film is a long flashback;Trintignant plays a director(actually Drach)who wants to transfer a screenplay -see above- to thescreen.If my memory serves me,cause it’s been a long time since Iwatched this flick for the last time,present scenes are shot in blackand white whereas past sequences are in color.Drach remembers.It was WW2,and Jews were arrested .His mother (playedby Drach’s then wife Marie-JosГ© Nat)had to escape from France and itwas not an easy thing to do ,because of her compatriots ‘ greed.There’sa wonderful part of a grand-mother ,marvelously played by GabrielleDoulcet who tries to explain to her grandson the absurdity of theanti-Semitism.Nat won the best actress prize at the festival de Cannes1974. Should appeal to people who like films like ” Au nom de tous lesmiens” (story of Martin Gray ,directed by Robert Enrico),”un sac debilles” and of course “the diary of Anne Frank”.

Superb! From start to finish, this movie left me on the edge of my seat.Arnold S. was perfect in this movie and I don’t think any other actor couldhave pulled it off better. As I watched it, I was just as bewildered astheguys in the mission. Things were happening, and they didn’t know what, andniether did I! It was so cool to know my heart was pounding to theirrythum. Eventually, when everything was exposed, it got even better. Theaction was very well plotted and the soundtrack matched perfectly. CarlWeathers was a cool sidekick, giving complaints here and there and turningout to be a mole. My only complaint is Arnold’s invincibility. I mean, hedied like 5 times in that movie.

Although he tries to bring the motto of the ruling party to town (modernity, peace and progress) he realizes soon that there’s nothing to do against corruption… except to become corrupt. Step by step, helped by his pistol, Juan Vargas becomes the law and the worst Major in the town’s history.

Warsaw, December 1942. When a prostitute is savagely murdered, GermanIntelligence Officer Major Grau is called to investigate. An eyewitnesswho caught a glimpse of the perpetrator through a crack in a door,reveals that the killer wore grey trousers with a red stripe down theside – the uniform of a Wehrmact General. Grau quickly narrows thesuspects down to three men whose whereabouts on the night in questioncannot be accounted for.Having been aware of this film for many years, I finally managed tocatch a rare screening of it last night on British TV. Part of mycuriosity to see it was due to the sheer weight of the cast:- OmarSharif as Major Grau, Peter O’Toole, Donald Pleasence and Charles Grayas the Generals, plus Christopher Plummer, Tom Courtenay, PhilipNoiret, Gordon Jackson, John Gregson, Harry Andrews, Nigel Stock andPatrick Allen – phew! The film itself starts quite promisingly as amurder mystery and maintains the interest while based in Warsaw. Itfeatures an impressive sequence involving the flushing out of PolishResistance fighters in the city. An interesting side-note at this pointis that the armour used here appeared to be either real Tiger tanks, orpretty good replicas. This attention to detail was quite unusual for afilm made in 1966. Usually, contemporary armour was used in war filmsof this vintage – I’m thinking particularly of ‘Battle Of The Bulge’,’The Bridge At Remagen’ and even ‘Patton’.

First, let’s explain the origin of the movie. Dan O’Bannon Wrote adraft of a script titled “Memory” around 1973-74. In 1975 he went toParis for six months to work on an adaptation of Dune by AlejandroJodorowsky. When he came back to the USA without any money after thefailure of the “Dune” project, O’Bannon’s life was deeply affected bythis failure and the only thing he thought at this moment was to writea script. So he continued the “Memory” script and recalled it “StarBeast”. This title was fast abandoned and replace by “Alien”. Thescript was accepted by the 20th Century Fox, they chose Ridley Scott todirect the movie and some people of the “Dune” team, like H.R. Gigerand Jean “Moebius” Giraud joined Scott on the project. Giger and Giraudmade all of the beautiful designs of the movie, especially the monster! The following is part of the history…
