It has all the trappings of an entertaining musical, but the chemistryis not there. A few of the musical numbers are worth seeing, but manyare mediocre at best. The most peculiar thing about the movie is itssubstitution of boring, pedestrian new songs to take the place of ColePorter’s songs. Although Jimmy Van Heusen certainly composed some goodsongs in his day, the present “Ya Gotta Give the People Hoke,” “BounceRight Back,” and “A Second-Hand Turban” are embarrassing. The producerscouldn’t find 3 more Cole Porter songs to use instead? Adding to theembarrassment is the bowdlerization of the song “Anything Goes,” inwhich Mitzi Gayner is not even permitted to refer to authors'”four-letter words.” Instead, we are nonsensically told that authorsnowadays use only “three-letter words.” Of course, such censoring ofthe lyrics of this song negate the entire premise of the song, which isthat anything is permitted nowadays.Donald O’Connor has a very nice dance routine with children and a lotof bouncing balls in “Bounce Right Back,” which is the most originalnumber in the film. The comedy duos by O’Connor and Crosby fall flat,as does the vocal by Jeanmaire. Indeed, after hearing the mangledarrangement of her trying to sing “I Get a Kick Out of You,” I actuallystopped the movie and played a Frank Sinatra version in order to getthe bad taste out of my ears. Mitzi Gayner is lively and attractive anddoes a good job in belting out her songs.

What About movie – Syd March is an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Biological communion – for a price. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.

This film gets a huge A+ just for the performance of Caleb A. Jones. Some of the A-list reviewers claimed they were bored at parts. I don’tget that. I was riveted. What I like about the younger Cronenberg is that he is far more mentalthan visual. David Cronenberg always relied more on visual but alsomental ideas to make his points. The younger Cronenberg takes us on atrip of the mind through illness. But not just physical illness,societal illness. David Cronenberg of course did much of the same, butthis is different. It’s a different point of view. This film examines the absolute bottomof fascination with celebrity. Brandon Cronenberg is following in hisfather’s footsteps, and thank god he is. Is it a perfect film? No. Not even close. BUT, it is important for somany reasons. The ideas conveyed are incredible, and again- watchingCaleb Jones is pure acting geek joy. That is talent.If Brandon Cronenberg stays on course, he will be one of the mostimportant new filmmakers.

Whilst I may not be a pro at reviewing films by any stretch of theimagination, I feel compelled to give American Mary by the Soskasisters the highest praising review I can muster.My expectations for the film were high, having been caught up in thehype around the critically acclaimed body-mod horror – thankfully I waspleasantly surprised. There was a lot of room for error in making thefilm, but Jen and Sylvia approached the gory side of the filmperfectly, letting the viewer see just enough to be grossed out but notenough to warrant a sick bag. Whilst I was expecting fake blood andguts galore, the story and themes within the film were strong enoughnot to need the usual cheap thrills one might expect in a horror film,in fact I think the film wouldn’t have been as good were there moregore. On top of this, the characters were interesting/well developedand thanks to a couple of good casting calls and better performances(namely Katharine Isabelle and Tristan Risk) I found it easy to connectto them in the 103 minutes I watched them on screen.As many others have commented, it’s rare to find female horrordirectors that manage to hit the nail on the head quite as well as theTwisted Twins have manged to here, fingers crossed for a next projectequally as exciting.

I’m in Italy, the pope just died this weekend (April 2005) so ItalianTV showed ‘From A Far Country’ late last night. I’m not remotelyinterested in the pope, and I’m not Italian, so I couldn’t understandthe dubbing, but I nevertheless stayed riveted to this movie because ofthe stunning cinematography and subtle special effects that gave theimages such an extraordinarily documentarily accurate and overwhelmingsense of period time and place. From the apparent ages of the principalactors (Sam Neill, Chris Cazenove etc) I was able to guess that themovie was made in the early eighties, though the clever period look ofthe film and its imaging effects suggested 21st century digitalprocesses, so it was a real puzzle to me who had made it, perhaps someclassy 80’s director like Hugh Hudson, with a 2005 makeover from ILM,or perhaps the guy who shot Schindler’s List, or even Edgar Reitz. Butno, turns out it was all the work of some Polish director I’d neverheard of. Bravo Krzysztof Zanussi! Anyone interested in making period,historical movies of ostensibly dry subjects should definitely takenotes from this guy. Even the back-projected Vatican crowd sequenceabout halfway through, although looking obviously fake, is neverthelessso well done that one suspends not only disbelief, but also criticism.

One of the wonderful aspects of cinema is that all the various originalityof a culture can be presented, in any combination, with their indigenousvisual and aural realities. The arid outback, the aussie dialect, and theDown Under idea of Wacky combine in this oh-so-funny film to bring you totears from laughing so hard. You’ll find yourself rewinding to see a greatslapstick scene again, or to hear exactly what someone said. A quick takewill clarify a confusing one several scenes earlier causing renewed laughteryet again. When the credits began rolling I began laughing again atremembered shots still teasing my memory. And laughter isn’t all this filmhas to offer – bits of poignance, ire, and mystery are added to the recipeto round out its flavor. The story could only have been told in Australiaby Australians to acheive so great result.

Rodeo racketeers running a gambling/counterfeiting operation arefinding their profits dwindling due to the fact that Tex Ritter seemsto win every event. Soon Tex and his sidekicks are running from amurder charge, protecting a girl and her brother from the gang andtrying to put the wrap on the gang.Without much action, this is not really one of Ritter’s best outings,though he’s as likable as ever, rising above the material with hisbreezy good-natured attitude. Though his surroundings are prettyturgid, he sails effortlessly through the movie and sings some prettygood songs.The best scene involves Tex’s card game with the villains.

This story is amazing it catches your audience with a simple moral begrateful for what you have and don’t wish for anything more because itwon’t make you happy. The film is suppose to mess with your head andmake you understand all the bad things that happen to Alice and themusic is so good you don’t notice that it is there. The drawings aregreat but if you noticed In the Mad Hatters tea party sequence, theHatter and the Hare decide to ‘mend’ the White Rabbit’s watch. Aftertreating it with everything from butter to jam the watch starts to flyaround the table and the Hare swipes it with a large mallet. Just asthe mallet hits, the colour fades from the scene. why? many havespeculated but nobody knows for sure. One theory is that bits of theoriginal print went missing and all they could find was a black andwhite insert. However, it’s a gradual fade across several frames – nota quick cut from colour to black and white – which perhaps indicates itwas a deliberate “effect”.

Arang is a reasonably good story that tries to tie in the policeinvestigation type drama into an essentially horror movie. In thisattempt, it has some originality, and i applaud that. Also the idea ofinvolving both the two cops investigating these murder in the originalsituation that led to the series of revenge murders is quiteinteresting. However i would have liked to see more of theinvestigation side of the drama rather than the horror side. There isfar too many graphic images of the same ghosts that just keep comingback again and again and i feel it doesn’t add anything to the storybut to scare the audience. The movie is very ambiguous as to how thevictims did actually die, whether it’s supernatural or cases ofpoisoning. I find myself baffled many times how different things relateto each other, and i feel that again the director tries to confuse theaudience deliberately to add to the suspense or scariness of the movie.It kind of put me off because the story seems less convincing becauseof all the unexplained elements. In summary, if you like horror, it’s amovie that’s worth having a watch if you’ve got the time. Nothinggroundbreaking, and for me it’s plainly too much blood and gore withoutthe necessity for it.

Hey there, The movie has an interesting plot but it confused me.Sometimes I couldn’t follow the story ’cause I didn’t realize what justhappened. The parts between those which scared the **** out of you arekind of annoying the characters are boring and don’t have manyproperties. Whtever the scene which meant to be scary really scared meI’ll remember this one for a long time. Moreover the effects were thesame like always hence I missed something new in here and wascommiserate about what they did with such a nice idea. the cast wasokay though.

Superb! From start to finish, this movie left me on the edge of my seat.Arnold S. was perfect in this movie and I don’t think any other actor couldhave pulled it off better. As I watched it, I was just as bewildered astheguys in the mission. Things were happening, and they didn’t know what, andniether did I! It was so cool to know my heart was pounding to theirrythum. Eventually, when everything was exposed, it got even better. Theaction was very well plotted and the soundtrack matched perfectly. CarlWeathers was a cool sidekick, giving complaints here and there and turningout to be a mole. My only complaint is Arnold’s invincibility. I mean, hedied like 5 times in that movie.
