What About movie – Seth Brundle, a brilliant but eccentric scientist attempts to woo investigative journalist Veronica Quaife by offering her a scoop on his latest research in the field of matter transportation, which against all the expectations of the scientific establishment have proved successful. Up to a point. Brundle thinks he has ironed out the last problem when he successfully transports a living creature, but when he attempts to teleport himself a fly enters one of the transmission booths, and Brundle finds he is a changed man. This Science-Gone-Mad film is the source of the quotable quote Be afraid. Be very afraid.”

I have seen this film quite a few times and still cry at the ending.David Cronenberg is a genius and my favourite director, a master of thegenre. This film shows male hysteria, some black comedy (some briefscenes, one of them involving a baboon) and true love. Of course, theending is heartbreaking and I think it can effect on people in reallife. It is disturbing, but if you’re like me then you’ll see beyondthat and see the beauty and sorrow of this film. I know that Crash ismarvellous to audiences, but in my opinion, how this film shockedviewers in ways and made them think as well; it is undoubtedly DavidCronenberg’s masterpiece.

What can I say about this film? Well, for starters, IT WAS GREAT! Of course,there were some plot holes and things that could’ve been left out the finalcut, but it was just too good to let little things get out of the way. Thismovie still is a great topic of conversation between friends andmyself.The special effects were something to look at. Dozens of flying cars zoomingby in traffic hell, and when Willis dives through them it’s justspectacular. It was the best mid-air car chase I’d ever seen, and the scenewhere Leeloo is reconstructed from just DNA was an excellent way tointroduce a main character.And for the record, for all those people who think Chris Tucker’s character(Ruby Rode) was gay, I want to say that he wasn’t. I would guess that Bessonwas thinking of how so many things would change in 3 hundred years. Justthink now. There were no computers in the 1800’s. Hell, there wasn’t even atelephone (I don’t think, but if there was it wasn’t touch-tone).The haircuts were weird. So were the clothes. So were the rooms inside theapartments. But this came from the mind of a 13 year-old French boy inboarding school and revised into a movie. Besson’s got a good and creativeimagination. And if he is really helming the Tomb Raider movie, I’m sureit’ll just add to the list.

The Fifth Element is my favorite movie in the world, & Bruce Willis is myfavorite actor. It is not only funny, it had me on the edge of myseat.

I have always been intrigued by this film, mostly because of the fantasy itsuggests, and even obtained a VHS copy to look it over more closely. Usingthe leads posted by other readers, I have been able to glean the followingfacts from various Internet and library resources concerning the strangetale of The Mad Trapper of Rat River, played in Death Hunt by CharlesBronson;a] A man referring to himself as Albert Johnson [identified post mortem byassociates as Albert Nelson, although that was also an assumed name] arrivedin the Aklavik area and brought attention onto himself from a large purchaseof ammunition, a new shotgun, and an inexplicable refusal to get himself atrapper’s license. Johnson ran afoul of a Constable Edgar Millen [LeeMarvin’s character] during the New Years season of 1931-32 after hisapparent meddlings with the traps of some of the local types, who suggestedthat he had gone bonkers in the isolation of the mountains. b] Two posses did in fact make seperate trips to Johnson’s handmade cabin[measuring 8 feet by 8 feet] and one of the Mounties did in fact have abrief encounter with Johnson through an open window; The first time hesimply wouldn’t answer their knocks, and the second time he shot a Mountiethrough his closed door with a .38 automatic. A third posse, with Const.Millens, then made the 80 mile dogsled trip and blew up Johnson’s cabinafter he again refused to acknowledge them.

MacLaine gets a huge workout in this episodic comedy about a woman fromhumble beginnings who is satisfied with the smaller things in life, butwho keeps marrying men who make a fortune and then die, leaving her awealthy widow four times over! Each one of the marriages sees MacLaineexperiencing a new level of frustration and enveloping herself in anincreasingly over-the-top super-glam wardrobe. As she relates themarriages to the rather manipulative psychologist Cummings, eachrelationship is seen as if it were a certain movie genre. Van Dykelives a simple existence as a small-time store owner and their sequencecontains an old silent-movie vignette. Newman is an expatriate artistliving in Paris, so theirs is a slightly naughty French art film.Mitchum is a businessman loaded with dough which lends itself to aparody of the fur-and-fashion Ross Hunter women’s pictures. Thenmarriage to small town hoofer Kelly includes a big song and dancenumber out of a 1940’s musical. Also on hand is loutish playboy Martin,who plays the man her mother (Dumont) wanted her to marry in the firstplace. MacLaine gives a worthy performance with lots of physical comedyand an impressive dance sequence. She’s occasionally a little shrill,but that’s the character. Van Dyke is solid, Newman is sexy (and showsmore skin here – albeit G-rated – than in the bulk of his othermovies), Mitchum is charming, Kelly is appropriately self-involved andMartin is his usual suave, laid-back self.

Even though I was born a couple of decades after this movie wasreleased, I wanted to watch it when it played on TV because it wasgiven a perfect 5/5 rating by my local newspaper’s TV listings. When Ituned in, I was even more excited when I found out that it was a DavidWolper and Mel Stuart collaboration because I really loved ‘Willy Wonkaand the Chocolate Factory.’ It’s a shame that ‘If It’s Tuesday ThisMust Be Belgium’ is not available on DVD. Even though it was made about30 years ago, the misadventures of the ensemble cast are as funny asever. The fine balance between the witty humor and acerbic banter inthis movie is something that is rare in movies today. The only moviesthat come close are a few of Wes Anderson’s (Rushmore, RoyalTenenbaums, The Life Aquatic), but instead of being faux retro, ‘IfIt’s Tuesday This Must Be Belgium’ really is retro. It shows all ofEurope’s fabled landmarks in the tongue-and-cheek manner that you can’tget from any movie unless it really was made in 1969. I liked the partwhen the group was at a cheese market in Amsterdam and the tour guidesays, “There’s an auction of gouda cheeses and edam cheeses. And prettygood-a edam cheeses they are.” That is like so corny it’s funny. Afterwatching this movie, I actually did want to take a European bus tour!But the best thing about this movie is its great cast, particularly thebeautiful Suzanne Pleshette and the devilishly handsome Ian McShane.

I personally believe that “Friday the 13th”, “Halloween” and “Nightmareon Elm Street” are the greatest slasher films ever made. 1980 was anextremely special year in horror films, and no, it wasn’t just for theShining. It was the beginning of Friday the 13th, a date which manyfear due to this franchiseThere were some great aspects about this film and some not so greataspects of the film. I personally found the plot rather well done, withnothing except someone out for revenge, simply killing all that enterCamp Crystal Lake. The plot is very simplistic, yet very enjoyable. Theidea of a mom being a serial killer in this film can be laughable andcan also be scary. However, the film suffers from other openings toclassic slashers. “Original Nightmare on Elm Street”, “Original Halloween” and “OriginalChild’s Play” were so well done that it was extremely enjoyable,whereas I personally found the film very quiet on many differentoccasions, with no real surprise to me. Also, unlike the sequels, thekilling seems to be far too separated from one another. However, the soundtrack is the spookiest part of this film. Its done sowell and the acting is good, with the entire cast chipping in. What Iliked most about this film is that a mother isn’t just an insane personout there killing for no reason, but its simply to revenge her son, theone she loved more than anything.

I was in a local video store that was closing down and selling offtheir stock, a trend these days it seems due to the emergence ofNetflix and the like, and noticed this film. It caught my attentionbecause I’m a pilot so I bought it ($2).It wasn’t at all what I’d expected but I was pleasantly surprised nonethe less. The cinematography and acting are exceptional. The story is alittle slow but holds your interest and you become invested in thecharacters as the movie moves along. They seemed real to me. That aloneis saying a lot considering some of what is foisted upon the viewingpublic these days.While I would classify this as a family movie it does contain some darkmaterial dealing with sexual abuse so I would not say it was for youngchildren. Still and all, it was a pleasant viewing experience and Ifound it head and shoulders above a lot of what is produced inHollywood these days.I would recommend Spin for anyone looking for a well done, mostlypleasant viewing experience.

Over the years, Nikolas’s former adoptive families become many, and soon almost every house has presents on its doorstep on Christmas morning. At thirteen, Nikolas is sent to live and work with Iisakki, a grumpy old carpenter, who forbids Nikolas to continue making presents for Christmas. Gradually, however, Nikolas wins Iisakki’s trust. Together they begin to look after the Christmas traditional that Nikolas has begun. When the aged Iisakki has to leave Nikolas and move away, the tradition of Christmas presents is once again at risk. Thankfully, Nikolas comes up with a solution that brings children joy every Christmas, even continuing to today.

Spoiler! A surprise ending about hope. I watched this movie with my wife and nephewAustin. Austin enjoyed the movie. Austin liked how people can change. Mywife liked the dog. It was different seeing himin such a different role. The movie gives you a feeling of country life. They even had the nasty neighbour. The other dogs in the movie were meanbecause they were mistreated, but with a little love and kindest, they canchange. Overall it is a good movie for the family to watch.

No good deed goes unpunished it would seem in California Firebrand.Paul Hurst finds Monte Hale afoot shorn of horse and six guns and giveshim a lift. Later on they find Dan Sheridan shot in the back andneeding medical assistance real bad. Hale goes to town to find some.But as it turns out Sheridan is a notorious gunslinger brought to townby villains Tris Coffin and Douglas Evans to be town marshal and keepthe decent citizens cowered. This is so they can take a valuable pieceof mining property owned by Sarah Edwards and her clan.Hale learns that these people murdered his uncle who tried to helpEdwards and her people. But he plays along hoping to find out just whatthe big picture is with the villains and whatever nefarious schemesthey’re hatching.California Firebrand has the look and feel of a Roy Rogers film and inthis case with good reason as it is a remake of one of Roy’s films fromthe early Forties Sheriff Of Tombstone.
